Transfer3 Collective Exhibition

Transfer3 is the collective name for a group exhibition featuring myself, Clare Larkin and Melony Skeldon and held at Devonport Live, Plymouth, 6th - 13th August 2016.

The exhibition illustrates the varied stages at which each artist is currently working, 5 years after graduation from Plymouth University.

Having mainly produced hand made artist books, I have felt a growing need to return to drawing techniques and mark making.
This body of work was conceived about three years ago after many visits to Slapton Ley and Torcross Beach. My response has been inspired by the contrasts and similarities of two bodies of water, one fresh and one sea, that co-exist in such close proximity.

Although I don't usually work to short, pressured deadlines, I have enjoyed the focus of working towards an exhibition. Most of the drawings have been achieved because I have had plenty of summer holiday time away from the day job. I visited Slapton and Torcross early one morning and was able to enjoy lovely peace while I made sketches, wrote creatively and took photos.....only being distracted by the swallows for a short while!

The process has generated more ideas for drawing.....

New Drawings

Two new drawings based on a response to Slapton Ley & Torcross Beach. Exploring themes of repetition and movement in water and its natural surroundings.

I find the act of repetition very soothing and meditative. Throwing the shingle onto the page, drawing around it, then repeating, almost became a performance. In fact, the process was similar to the action of the waves, linking the concept of response to the actual act of drawing.
